FAQ: What does an oxygen sensor do?
A: The oxygen sensor reads the exhaust gas and sends a signal to the computer about the "spent" fuel mixture. This helps the vehicle adjust the mixture of air to fuel in the engine to the optimum ratio for both fuel economy and emissions. Pre 1996 cars will have 1 of these before each catalytic converter. Cars after 1996 usually have one sensor both before and after each catatytic converter. Most of these later sensors are heated by an electric element to come "online" faster and help the car reach closed loop more quickly after a cold start. |
FAQ: I have a late model BMW and understand that special electronic tools are required to replace many of the electrical components due to something called "coding". Can you handle this?
A: Yes we can: Most newer BMW vehicles have electronic parts that can be used for multiple vehicle models and applications: These parts may require coding to set up the component to fit the specific needs and settings of your vehicle. Our scan tool and software allows both coding and programming of control units for all BMW makes and models of any year. We can also set the optional car key memory features of your vehicle exactly the way you want them. We can also check you late model engine and transmission control units to see if there are any software updates available to improve performance or drivability issues. |

FAQ: The dealer is so expensive... Do I need to go the the dealer for service while my vehicle is under warranty?
A: No. This is a common misunderstanding that dealerships are not in a hurry to clarify. Factory warranty work and recalls (in most cases) should be done at the dealer because it is free to the customer. However, service work to maintain your vehicle and ensure it meets warranty requirements may be done at any shop as long as they follow the proper procedures and use the correct service parts and fluids for your car. During your service, if we see anything that would fall into a warranty catagory, we will notify you so that you can return to the dealer for them to examine the problem and determine if it can be done for free. Some vehicles do come with free scheduled maintenance, and those vehicles should return to the dealer for service until the service contract period has expired.
Often independent repair shops such as World Imported Car Service offer equivalent service at lower prices, providing better value for your dollar than a dealership. We do not, however have free capucino in the lobby or crystal lighting fixtures.

FAQ: My Mercedes Benz vehicle has an "indicator based service" lamp on. Do you know what this means?
A: Yes: Mercedes Benz vehicles use either an FSS or FSS+ based service system. These systems are designed to maximize the safe interval between service operations and can save the customer money in the long run. Many Mercedes vehicles employ the latest synthetic fluids and updated filters to maximize oil change intervals without causing harm to the engine. Some of these engines do not even have dipsticks to check fluid levels. The use of this system allows the vehicle to monitor how you drive taking external factors into consideration. These factors, such as vehicle temperature and trip length, can actually increase or decrease the service interval your car will require. On regular FSS systems you can think about an "A" service as a minor and a "B" service as a major service. The FSS+ system is quite different. On the FSS+ system, the letter in the displace is a rough estimate of the hours needed for the service due. For Example, an "A" service would take about, 1 hour. A "B" service two hours and so forth. The actual operations to be performed can only be determined by scanning the maintenance computer system and reading out what the vehicle says it needs at that time.
